New insight on the behaviour of the irreversible adsorption and underpotential deposition of thallium on platinum (111) and vicinal surfaces in acid electrolytes

چکیده
We report, for the first time, the electrochemical behaviour of thallium irreversibly adsorbed on Pt (111) and platinum stepped surfaces composed of (111) terraces and monoatomic steps. Similar to the case of thallium UPD, the voltammograms obtained after thallium irreversible adsorption present three characteristic features. After a careful analysis of the effect of the thallium concentration, the concentration and nature of the anion of the supporting electrolyte and the pH of the solution on these voltammetric features, we have been able to ascribe these processes to Tl/Tl oxidation and anion adsorption on the Tlmodified surface. In addition, the results obtained with stepped surfaces, indicate that some of the features are clearly associated to the presence of (111) surface domains, and thus they could be used for the quantification of these sites.

Monte Carlo Methods for Equilibrium and Nonequilibrium Problems in Interfacial Electrochemistry∗
We present a tutorial discussion of Monte Carlo methods for equilibrium and nonequilibrium problems in interfacial electrochemistry. The discussion is illustrated with results from simulations of three specific systems: bromine adsorption on silver (100), underpotential deposition of copper on gold (111), and electrodeposition of urea on platinum (100).
متن کاملElectrochemical Deposition of Flower-Like Nickel Nanostructures on Well-Defined n-Si (111):H
In this paper the electrodeposition of nickel on n-Si(111):H substrate, in the presence of sulphuric acid, was studied. Cyclic voltammetry has been used to characterize the electrochemical behavior of the system. The nickel deposits had a flower-like morphology with the sphericalnanostructure nucleus, distributed uniformly on the surfaces of the prepared n-Si(111) substrate.

In this article electrochemical determination of captopril at the surface of the platinum coated nanoporous gold film (PtNPGF) electrode is reported using the cyclic voltammetry and amperometry. For the preparation of PtNPGF, the surface of NPGF electrode was covered with Cu layer using underpotential electrochemical deposition (UPD).Afterward, the copper layer is replaced with platinum ions vi...
متن کاملExplicit Detection of the Mechanism of Platinum Nanoparticle Shape Control by Polyvinylpyrrolidone
The irreversible adsorption of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) on a series of well-defined platinum single crystal electrode surfaces has been investigated using voltammetry, ex situ XPS and DFT calculations. It is found that the adsorption of PVP is highly structure sensitive with strong adsorption exhibited by step and {100} terrace sites with only weak interactions observed between PVP and Pt{111...

The mechanistic aspects of the electrochemical reduction of U(V1) nitrate at a mercury electrode in chloroform, using three different supporting electrolytes, are described. In the presence of tetrabutylarnmonium perchlorate (TBAP) as a neutral electrolyte, UO (NO ) , reduced in two irreversible electrochemical steps to form a U(V1)-U(V) binuclear complex and U(IV), respectively. In the pr...
